The Hiring Challenge Companies Face Today
Sep 10, 2025

When we talk about recruitment today, we’re really talking about a process that has become increasingly complex, time-consuming, and costly for organizations. What once looked like a straightforward “post a job and wait for candidates” is now filled with obstacles: the flood of résumés, ensuring candidates truly match the job description, and validating technical skills and English proficiency with accuracy.
According to a 2023 McKinsey report, more than 60% of HR leaders say finding candidates with the right skills is their biggest hiring challenge. And it’s not hard to see why.
The résumé overload
On platforms like LinkedIn or Indeed, a single job posting can attract hundreds of applicants in just hours. While this expands the talent pool, it also creates a massive operational burden for recruiting teams. Manually reviewing every résumé is not only time-consuming but also increases the risk of overlooking top talent.
Matching candidates to the role
Another major pain point is ensuring that applicants truly fit the position. Workday (2024) found that over 50% of résumés passing initial screening still don’t meet key job requirements. This forces recruiters to spend additional time in interviews and assessments, prolonging the process and raising costs.
Assessing technical and language skills
Listing “proficient in digital tools” or “advanced English” on a résumé doesn’t guarantee ability. Companies need ways to objectively verify skills, since performance in the role depends on them. Technical tests and language assessments are essential, but they often mean longer, disconnected processes that frustrate both recruiters and candidates.
The high cost of hiring
The financial impact of recruitment is significant. SHRM (2022) estimates that the average cost of hiring a new employee in the US is about $4,700 per position—and that doesn’t include the internal time and resources spent by recruiting teams.
The stakes are even higher with a wrong hire. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that a bad hire can cost up to 30% of the employee’s first-year earnings. Beyond dollars, recruiting teams bear the weight of countless hours spent screening, interviewing, and evaluating—efforts that can quickly drain resources if mismanaged.
Moving toward skills-based hiring
To address these challenges, more organizations are shifting to skills-based hiring. According to LinkedIn Talent Solutions (2023), job posts emphasizing skills grew 21% faster than those focused on degrees. This approach not only widens access to diverse talent but also improves retention and reduces hiring costs.
Where do we go from here?
One thing is clear: today’s hiring model needs to evolve. Companies require smarter tools, faster processes, and methodologies that prioritize real capabilities over credentials—ultimately lowering costs while easing the burden on HR teams.
Very soon, we’ll be sharing how we’re tackling this challenge with a new, technology-driven approach designed to transform the hiring experience—for both recruiters and candidates.
